“A City of Sadness” Tea House was made famous serving as the film set for director Hsiao-Hsien Hou’s film of the same title. It has since attracted many filmmakers, tourists to the area. The tea house was built mimicking the 1950s as a traditional inn, a distinctive Taiwanese tea house of the era. The tea house was founded almost 30 years ago and has never gone under any major changes to deviate from its Taiwanese vibe. The tea house promotes teas around Taiwan, especially of the Oolong variety; and other tea inspired desserts, sugar cakes, tea infused plums and many more. It also serves traditional Taiwanese dishes, coffee, Western style scented and herbal teas, even the lesser known Taiwan big-bowl tea which have all become crowd favorites.

9 Gold Cake Store is the most renowned souvenir / omiyage store on the old street of Jiufen. Being awarded by the now New Taipei City Council or previously the Taipei County the top 10 pastry shop of the entire county. The bakery prides itself in upholding the traditional techniques but embraces innovation and creativity into its Chinese pastries, such gave birth to the quirky taro mash mochi biscuits, pineapple biscuits etc. Through innovation, the bakery highlights the simplicity and the soul-nourishing nature of the early years of Taiwanese pastries.
