The sky lantern is one of the most colorful folk cultures in northern Taiwan and has been voted as the "World's Second Largest Festive Carnival" by Discovery. Every year, on the night of the Lantern Festival, tens of thousands of people come to Pingxi to participate in the event. As present, sky lantern release has symbolized the activity of praying for blessings, several sky lanterns can now be seen decorating the sky of Pingxi even on normal days!
The origin of the sky lantern in Pingxi is that in the early Qing Dynasty, there were bandits in Pingxi and Tsien areas, and because of the mountainous area, the villagers fled to the mountains, and after the bandits left, those who remained in the village cast sky lanterns at night as a signal to inform the villagers who had taken refuge in the mountains that they could go home, and also as a way to report peace to the villagers.

When releasing a sky lantern at Happy Lantern, you start by selecting the one that suits you best. The staff will place the lantern on a stand where you can write your wishes and aspirations for the future on it. During the writing process, you can see the Pingxi Line train passing by in front of you, strolling along the street. As you watch the lantern slowly rise into the sky, you pray for your wishes to come true and for all your dreams to be fulfilled, experiencing a heartwarming moment full of emotions.

▲The main feature of Shifen Old Street is the connection between the old street and the railroad tracks, allowing visitors to experience the novelty of "trains passing in front of the doors" and the fun of strolling along the tracks. The old street is bustling and diverse, offering the opportunity to buy a sky lantern and write wishes for oneself and loved ones, offering blessings. The nearby Shifen Suspension Bridge is also a popular spot for visitors to pause and capture memorable photos.
