|The National Palace Museum, the largest museum in Taiwan.
The National Palace Museum, located in Taipei, houses approximately 650,000 artifacts spanning over 5,000 years of history. It is not only the largest museum in Taiwan but also one of the must-visit attractions for anyone traveling to Taipei!
Within the museum, you will find major collections originating from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, which can be roughly categorized into bronze artifacts, calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, books and documents, crafts, and court-related cultural relics. Each item in the collection carries profound stories. Let's step into the National Palace Museum together and listen to the historical tales told by these artifacts!
|The exquisitely crafted carving, "Jadeite Cabbage," from the Qing Dynasty.
The Jadeite Cabbage, which is the most popular treasure in the National Palace Museum, is well-known to everyone. This artwork bears an almost perfect resemblance to a real cabbage. It is meticulously carved from jadeite, featuring a familiar subject with a pure white body and lush green leaves, creating a sense of closeness and familiarity. The presence of grasshoppers and locusts perched on the leaves symbolizes fertility and abundance.
|The 300-Year-Old Preserved Meat! Qing Dynasty Meat-Shaped Stone.
At first glance, doesn't the famous Meat-Shaped Stone in the National Palace Museum resemble a piece of "Dongpo Pork"? The Meat-Shaped Stone is originally a natural mineral, skillfully processed and carved by craftsmen to enhance its rich texture. The surface of the stone is dyed to create distinct layers of skin, fat, and lean meat, with realistic pores and textures. This artwork is further highlighted by the golden undulating waves on its pedestal, adding a touch of nobility.
In addition to the two major star collections, the bronze artifacts include famous pieces such as the Mao Gong Ding, San Shi Pan, and Zong Zhou Zhong. The three renowned paintings are Guo Xi's "Early Spring," Fan Kuan's "Travelers Amid Mountains and Streams," and Su Shi's "Cold Food Observance Album." Notable literary works include the Wen Yuan Ge "Complete Library of the Four Treasuries" and the Chi Zao Tang "Essentials of the Complete Library of the Four Treasuries." Each artifact is worthy of careful appreciation!
